TESOL Course in Granada, Spain

Places in Granada, SpainGranada is conveniently situated midway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra Nevada with exceptional geography, a magical valley, midway between the warm sea and the high mountains. You'll be about 75 minutes to Malaga, 30 minutes to Europe's southern-most ski resort, 30 minutes to hiking in the Alpujarras and 45 minutes to the Mediterranean beaches! But it's not just the location that makes Granada a desirable location to begin your TESOL and international adventure.

Historically, Granada is the last redoubt of the Moorish Kingdom in Western Europe. It was first settled as Ilbyr by native tribes in the prehistoric period. When the Romans colonized southern Spain, they built their own city here, but the Arabs invaded the peninsula in the 8th century and gave it its current name of Granada. It was the last Muslim city to fall to the Christians in 1492, at the hands of Queen Isabel of Castile and her husband Ferdinand of Aragon.

Places in Granada, SpainIt is kept alive with passion by the sound of Flamenco music played into the night and the cuisine available. Additionally, the world famous 8th wonder of the world, the Alhambra is found in Granada. The Alhambra is a series of palaces and gardens built under the Nazari Dynasty in the 14th century. This mighty compound of buildings stands at the foot of Spain's highest mountain range, the Sierra Nevada, and overlooks the city below and the fertile plain of Granada. And it was in Granada that Christopher Columbus received the support needed to seek a new route to India, which subsequently ended with his arrival in the Americas.

While in Granada, experience the soul of Spain in Andalucía: the Pasos of Semana Santa - Easter week - depicting the Passion of Christ, first created for a medieval audience. Paso, huge and heavy statues of Christ, Saints and the Virgin Mary, are carried on the shoulders of Costaleros. They proceed from the many churches around Granada, through the streets and into the Cathedral, then back to their home church. The Cofradía, an ancient brotherhood, adorn these statues, each year and take part in the processions. These traditions are dedicated to keeping alive this celebration, the parades of Navidad (Christmas) and of the Three Kings Day.

So begin your adventure today in this dynamic setting and experience all that Granada has to offer.
