One of the liveliest Islands Cyclades, Ios, is now home to TEFL International’s world renowned TEFL certificate course. The island’s gorgeous coastal scenery is decorated with bleached white houses stacked densely and precariously like a tower of playing cards on the hillside. It’s world-famous beaches will now be your playground in your free time during your stay, where you may indulge in watersports, snorkeling, diving, beach volleyball, or just some well-deserved “R-N-R” under the warm Grecian sun.

Despite the lure of the island’s obvious playful charms and beauty, one cannot ignore its historical value. Believed to have first been inhabited by a Pelasgian tribe, Ios is a place of long-standing tradition and cultural riches so strong that they have survived outside influences during times of occupation by other nations. Greece is known for its love and respect for food, so the culinary delights of this country may be reason enough to make Ios the location of choice for your certification training!

Perhaps one of Ios’s more commonly known attractions is the remains of Homer’s tomb, which can still be seen by the traveler who seeks it. It is believed that Homer wished to be buried in Ios because it was his mother’s birthplace. If you are fortunate enough to be in Ios in May, you will witness the annual festival held in Homer’s honor, “Homeria”, on the 15th of the month, in which a torch is carried from the Port to his tomb in Plakoto. Other popular attractions include the monastery of St. John (Ag Ioannis) and the Venetian castle ruins which overlooks the village from its perch on the hilltop. And don’t forget to take in the dazzling sunset view from the highest point in the village, Panaghia Gremiotissa. No matter what your interests may be, Ios is a destination that will not disappoint.

Course Location

Our school is located in the main village on Ios, Ios Chora or “Ios Town”. It resides on the western side of the island, about a twenty minute walk from the town’s port. The town plays host to a myriad of hotels, rooms for rent, restaurants, bars/night clubs and plenty of places to shop for fine jewelry, gifts and souvenirs, and various necessities like toiletries, etc. Many of the shop owners even stay open way into the early morning hours in hopes that the night clubbers will want to do a little late (or early) shopping! And of course, there is no shortage of sandy real estate to do a little sunbathing on over the weekends.

Course Fees

The course fee is $500 deposit + 920 Euros (excluding accommodation).

Accommodations

Accommodation prices vary based on peak tourist months. Private rooms are available for 300 Euros during the off season (October through June) and 500 Euros during the months of July, August and September. If you prefer a shared room, such rooms are available year-round for 300 Euros. In all cases, you may need to share a bathroom.
